Johnson Family Day at the Lake

The entire Johnson family spent the day at Sun Valley Lake today.  Everyone had a great time playing outside, swimming, boating, and celebrating Grandma Johnson's 92nd birthday.  It was a little warm, but that did not stop us from having a good time!

Barnyard Readers - Oxen

Today we visited Living History Farms for the 3rd session of the Barnyard Readers Program.  The topic today was oxen!  After reading a book about oxen, we took a tractor ride out to the 1850 farm to see the pair of oxen (or "the boys" as everyone on the farm likes to call them).  Jack was scared to get too close, so he had no interest in petting them.  He was happy just to watch from a distance!

4th of July

Happy 4th of July to all our friends and family!  The Johnson family had a great time celebrating the 4th this year.  Our day started off at the Urbandale parade.  It was extremely hot, but fortunately we were able to enjoy the parade sitting in the shade.  The kids enjoyed lots of candy and watching all the cars and trucks go by.  After the parade, we headed back home and spent the afternoon in the pool.  There really wasn't much else to do but swim on a hot day like this!  We ended the day with sparklers and a fireworks display with the neighbors.  Jay made a trip to Missouri several weeks ago and loaded up on lots of fireworks.  He had a blast setting them all off.  The adults enjoyed the fireworks, but most of the kids weren't too sure.  They did not enjoy the loud noise!  All of us were excited to go to bed after a long, but fun day!

15 Months!

My baby girl is 15 months old!  She is growing up way too fast!  Katy has become quite the active, busy girl these days!  She is always on the move and will instantly squirm and fuss if we try to hold her down.  She is still not saying many words, but she has gotten quite comfortable with shaking her head no and yes when we ask her questions.  We are seeing her personality come out more and more and that has been fun to watch.  She is a silly girl, with a side of sassy!  She still loves to play with cars and trucks.  I think she would sit in her cozy coupe car for hours if I let her!  Katy is still a very good eater.  She will still eat just about anything we put in front of her.  She has even started clapping her hands with excitement any time we give her a food that she likes.  Since she is still such a great eater, Katy is still in the 90th percentile for height and weight.  We keep expecting her to move down the charts with each doctors appointment, but so far that has not happened! Katy loves being outdoors and as soon as she hears the word "outside", she instantly runs to get her sandals.  Unfortunately, this extreme heat has kept us indoors a lot this summer.  All in all, Katy is still a  happy, content little girl who always has a smile on her face!  We are having so much fun watching her grow up, I only wish we could find a way to slow it down a little!

Being Silly!
