Jack's new room

We finished Jack's new bedroom a few weeks ago and I think it turned out great! Below are a few pictures. We officially moved Jack into his "big boy" room last week and it hasn't been going the greatest. It takes him over an hour to fall asleep for his naps. He usually spends this hour playing....and then he falls asleep on the floor! And then at night time, he stands at the door and cries for Mommy and Daddy. I am hoping this week will go better for us. I think we are all a little sleep-deprived because of this transition! Jack has always been a great sleeper and I hope that continues past the crib.

Here are a few pictures of our nursery...all ready for the new baby!

For those of you who haven't been to our house in a while, I thought I would show you our fourth bedroom. We turned this into a playroom for Jack back in October. (This is our temporary fix until we get the playroom in the basement finished). This playroom has been great for Jack and I this winter since we aren't able to get outside to play. We spend a lot of time here!

Phoenix, Arizona!

Jay, Jack and I just returned home from a week in Phoenix visiting Bob & Gayle. We were hoping for a fun, relaxing vacation and that is exactly what we got. Most days were spent relaxing at Grandma and Grandpa's house. We spent a lot of time on Grandpa's new putting green, going for walks, and taking rides in the golf cart. Jack had so much fun on the putting green. He quickly figured out it was much easier to drop the ball into the hole with his hand rather than using the putter. Every time he would put the ball in the hole, he would jump up and say "I made it!"...and occasionally he would follow that with a "yay, Jack!" It was fun to watch.

Jay was able to get in three rounds of golf and I was happy to get a day of shopping. Jay and I were also happy to let Grandma and Grandpa babysit Jack on Valentine's Day so we could have a date night. Jay took me out for sushi and ice cream....he definitely knows the way to my heart!

Jack did another great job at traveling. We got several compliments on how well he did from other passengers on the plane, which is always nice to hear! This was our last time traveling with Jack as a lap child. Even though it is nice to save the money on airfare, I am looking forward to traveling with Jack in his own seat. It is hard to fit an almost 2-year old on your lap....especially being over 7 months pregnant!

The weather was perfect the entire week....sunny and in the mid to upper 70's! It was great to get away from the cold and snow....and it was a nice surprise to return home to record high's and no more snow! We will see how long that lasts.

All in all, we had a great time visiting with Bob & Gayle and we are looking forward to their return in April!

Belly pictures

Jay and I finally got our camera out today to take some belly pictures and I figured I may as well post them to the blog for those of you who have not seen me in a while. I am 31 weeks pregnant in these pictures.

I have not been very good at taking belly pictures during this pregnancy. I am embarrassed to admit these are our first ones taken. Hopefully I will be a little better at taking pictures over the upcoming weeks!

3D/4D Ultrasound

Jay and I went to Prenatal Vision on Monday evening for our 3D/4D ultrasound appointment. The ultrasound technician said Baby Johnson was doing great! She currently weighs about 3lbs 12oz, which puts her almost one week ahead of my due date of April 8. Unfortunately, she did not want to cooperate with us that night. She had her arm and hand in front of her face during the entire ultrasound, so we weren't able to get any good face pictures. We did get to see her profile, which showed her chubby little cheeks. We also saw lots of hair on the back of her head (just like her big brother!) The ultrasound technician let us reschedule our appointment to Thursday night and fortunately, she cooperated a little better the second time! We still didn't get as many good pictures as we did with Jack two years ago, but we at least got a couple.

Here are a few pictures of our baby girl:

Below are some pictures from Jack's ultrasound. I think its safe to say there is a resemblance!

Weekend with Katy and Corey

The Johnson family spent this past weekend visiting our good friends, Katy and Corey. We were anxious to see them and their new home. They recently bought a beautiful house in SE Iowa on an acreage with lots of trees and a pond. We thought it would be a great place for Jack to have his first real experience in the snow. There wasn't a hill for him to go sledding, but he seemed to enjoy walking around outside in the snow. I think he liked having the freedom to run around and not be contained!

Jack is 21 months!

Jack is 21 months old today....and still growing up way too fast! He is learning new things every day and we are enjoying his new explorations and expanding vocabulary. Here are a few highlights:
  • Jack is talking a lot now and learning new words every day. His favorite phrases are "bye-bye," "uh-oh, it's stuck," "please," "thank you," and "mmmm, that's good!" We hear them often!

  • Jack loves toys that plays music....he will hold them up to his ear and dance around the room. He also likes singing to himself while playing with his toys. We usually hear him singing the alphabet and the Barney song ("I love you, you love me....."). It is too cute!

  • He has taken a particular liking to animals. He loves reading animal books and is very quick to point them out whenever he sees an animal he recognizes in a book, on television, or in real life. We are having fun listening to all his animal sounds....some of them are quite humorous!

  • Jack is in love with his toothbrush....he is always asking to brush his teeth. (We will see how long that habit lasts!) I think he would carry his toothbrush around with him all day if we let him!

  • He is still a very active, busy boy and he always leaves a trail of toys behind. His playroom is always a disaster because he thinks its fun to dump all his toys out on the floor. Mommy does not enjoy this very much!

  • His eating habits haven't been the greatest as of late. He will love a particular kind of food one day and then want nothing to do with it the next. He can be very stubborn....I wonder where he gets this from?! His favorite foods right now are blueberries, apples, french fries, waffles, eggs, macaroni and cheese, pizza and juice.
All in all, he is a happy, healthy boy and we are trying to enjoy these last few months with him as an only child!
